SAFETY TIPS
Please read the following pointers to help you improve your time and enjoy the day.
Ten days before the rally:
" You should ride in hot weather building up your tolerance to the heat. Gradually increase your distance and time as you "harden" yourself to the heat. Remember to take a lot of fluids with you.
The day before the rally:
" Avoid alcohol. It causes your body to lose fluid faster.
" Avoid drinks with caffeine (like coffee, tea, Coke , Pepsi , Dr. Pepper , and Mountain Dew ). They act as diuretics (makes your body lose more water than it takes in). These can just aggravate dehydration.
" Get plenty of sleep the night before the rally.
Race day:
" Lay off the caffeine again. A natural high will serve your body better than a coffee jolt on the morning of the event.
" Drink 8 to 16 ounces of water or a sports drink before the rally, then 4-8 ounces every 15-20 minutes you are on your bike.
" Stop at every rest stop to get fluids. Don't let your water bottle go dry.
" Remember that longer biking requires some fuel in addition to fluids (eg. bananas, Power Bars™, etc.)
" After the rally, drink at least 8-16 ounces of water or a sports beverage.
Safety tips:
" Ride with a buddy. If you break down, become injured or get sick, it could take a while for the sag wagon or motorcycle patrol to arrive. Before the rally, decide how you will contact your buddy or other members of your group if one of you is injured or you become separated or lost.
" If you see a rider is down, do not move them unless they are in immediate danger. Alert race volunteers as soon as possible. Good luck and be safe!
